The post is based in the children's emergency department, where the post-holder is responsible for the care of all patients, under supervision of a consultant. The senior clinical fellow would be expected to direct the management of ill and injured children, participate in the resuscitation and stabilization of severely ill children, and assist in the management of severely injured children.

Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow post in Paediatric Emergency Medicine to join the Evelina London Children's Emergency Department team at St Thomas' Hospital. This post would be ideal for a doctor with a background in paediatrics or emergency medicine with experience working on a registrar rota, as well as for a doctor at the end of their training who wish to consolidate their skills in paediatric emergency medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Care of all patients in the children's emergency department, under supervision of a consultant
  • Direct the management of ill and injured children
  • Participate in the resuscitation and stabilization of severely ill children
  • Assist in the management of severely injured children
  • Contribute as appropriate in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management
  • Produce evidence of contribution in clinical governance areas and audit of own clinical work as part of appraisal
  • Cooperate with working hours monitoring arrangements
  • Undertake appraisal

  • This post would make a perfect OOPE placement.
  • The clinical fellow will participate in out-of-hours cover for the paediatric emergency department only.
  • All medical and dental staff are required to undertake appraisal.
  • This job description reflects core activities and will be amended in light of changing needs. It will be reviewed in conjunction with the post holder.
  • The trust expects staff to recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work.
  • All staff are expected to contribute to the smooth running of their clinical service, comply with policies, procedures, Standing Orders and Financial Regulations.
  • Neither the London Deanery nor the Royal College accredits this post for postgraduate training. However, the postholder will be expected to attend and contribute to educational activities e.g. departmental meetings, x-ray meetings, pathology meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, journal clubs etc.
  • Emphasis will be placed on research and audit activities.
  • Monitoring of working hours is under constant review in line with GMC guidelines for junior doctors.
